Interior design in charming places.
Among the rugged mountains of the Tramuntana mountain range and right in the heart of the Sóller Valley, we find a dream village where it would be easy to get used to living.
Fornalutx is that beautiful municipality on the island of Mallorca where the design studio Midnight Blue carried out a residential project that today opens its doors and invites us to dream.
A house with a certain wabi sabi air, which preserves the layout and architecture of the existing building. A comprehensive rehabilitation where some of the floor tiles by Francisco Segarra served as a connection with the traditional floors of this old manor house.
Houses with a dynamic and deep interior design.
In a beautiful enclave, away from the famous island beaches, we discover the charm of a different Mallorca. Fornalutx is a medieval village, standing on a hill, that boasts a quiet and rustic atmosphere.
Today we get lost among its steep alleys, admiring the farms and the stone buildings standing out among orange and lemon trees, to reach this redeveloped house that keeps a history of more than 300 years.
Fruit of each era that was breathed in this dwelling, we currently enjoy a dynamic and deep interior design where the union of traditional designs with brushstrokes of more current styles happens instinctively.
From the first moment you cross the front door, you can see that kind of disconnection that makes it a special place. The balance between architecture, design concept, natural materials and a nobility without sophistication is the hallmark of this residential project.
This house of Mallorca structure stands among cobbled walls and vintage floors, where the rooms exclude the superfluous and the natural elements find a place.
Ceilings with exposed beams, warm colours, fresh fabrics… The refined and asymmetrical lines help to integrate the new with the old marking the harmony of the environment.
On the owners’ request, the Midnight Blue studio devised a reform that would maintain the typical construction form in the old Mallorca houses. Historical layers that are reflected, room by room, through the selection of ceramic pavements belonging to the firm Francisco Segarra.
Ceramics of present, past and future.
That admirable return to the essential that we can appreciate in this interior design favours the use of raw and artisanal materials.
To get closer to the old designs that covered the floors of this house, the designers opted for three models from the series of pavements in the FS by Peronda collection.
Elegance comes from the hand of a ceramic mosaic “Nolla”, inspired by the tiles of modernist buildings… FS CHESTER, a design with iconic references that fills much of the house with character.
The passage of time settles as an ornamental element inviting us to value imperfection, through erosions and wear … FS ROOTS-1, a pavement that gives warmth and authenticity to the main room of the house.
The timelessness of hydraulic tiles, so common in the Mediterranean floors, is present in the rooms achieving extremely creative atmospheres… FS STAR, a star design with an aged finish that gives it a unique aesthetic.
In the house interior design comfort and functionality are the cornerstone of the well-being of those who will inhabit it, but that natural beauty fed by culture, traditions and a style that accepts the natural cycle of life is what makes these interiors friendly spaces.
That balanced atmosphere, so calm and vital at the same time, becomes part of the landscape in Fornalutx … How easy it would be to get used to living!
